Sonic 4: Episode 2 Screenshots Revealed

Post by Amuro on Wed Feb 15, 2012 5:00 pm

Okay, so the other day Xbox.com put up screenshots of Sonic 4: Ep.2. They were taken down because somebody derped, but you can look at them on TSSZ News. We shouldn't get our hopes up (until we see gameplay footage, that is), but from these screens, Ep.2 is looking pretty sweet. But that's just me. One notable added feature to this game is online and offline cooperative play, so you and one of your buddies can control Sonic or Tails to kick Eggman's fat arse, via local co-op or over Xbox Live, which I think is pretty damn awesome. What do you guys think?

See them here.

I like what I'm seeing, but one thing that is bugging me is I'm seeing a lot of levels inspired by Sonic 2. I hope I'm wrong, and I just pray that they don't reuse old bosses again. That was just stupid.

Looks like a Sonic 2 rip off; I am not expecting anything good out of Sega any more.

Plus if they don't listen to fans calling for the classic rendition of Sonic, Tails and Robotnik; they just have to be stupid. The game looks...okay; I have to say that Generations looked far better visually and this really just doesn't cut it, considering Sega has proved that they can do better.

It may be just me, but aside from the Winter Zone thing from the beta version of 2 and the obvious rehash of 2's special stage, I'm not seeing too many rehashes in terms of level design. Can someone fill me in here?

Also, if Sega randomly added in the classic renditions of Sonic, Tails, and Eggman, then there'd be some confusion to how they randomly regressed in age, reverting to their younger selves. And seeing as this is a downloadable title, you can't really expect big budget graphics, can you?

I like the look of it so far but pleae for the love of God, no rehash anything! I just want them to confirm that you can play Tails seperate from Sonic if you choose.

I didn't actually look at the material yoou're talking about in here yet, but I saw original badniks that are apparently gonna be in the game (the hermit crab and the dung beetle), which is nice, as opposed to rehashing old ones.

Ken Balough said in an interview that only one Zone in the game would be a legit rehash. Of course, we shouldn't get too excited until we see gameplay footage.

Well that's nice Wish there was more then just 4 stages though. At any rate it has confirmed that there is Co-op for the game locally and Online.

Edit:
Aparently there is a rumor that Sonic doesn't have the homing attack, I actually like this since the homing attack got me killed more times then I care count. This is only a rumor however...

Yeah, while I do like the homing attack, I don't think it works well in the 2D games. If it truly was removed, I think that was a good decision.

Do you honestly take that stupid idea of Classic Sonic being a younger version of Modern? I guess Sega needs to explain how he grew up to look so hideous; I know! He went to school at Nuclear Waste Zone and mutated into an ugly porcupine. They don't need to explain a thing, just put Classic in it.

The badniks are amazingly designed; but everything else just sucks, even episode two's rehashed badniks looked amazing.

1) Yes, actually. Always have, always will.
2) What would be the point? Sega already said that for the time being, Classic would only return in Generations.
3) You forget that there are people like Nickon that like certain details to be explained.

4) You mind explaining how everything else sucks? Excluding your obvious gripes with them using Modern Sonic and Tails, of course.
5) I think you meant "episode one".

Dude, Modern Sonic being "Classic Sonic grown up" IS a stupid idea. And it justify the ugliness of the modern design. Ideally, if Sega wanted to make Sonic grow up, all they simply had to do was this:

NOT completely warp his body proportions and facial expresions/features.

Well I respectfully I disagree with you on that subject. We have a thread where you can speak freely about why you think Modern Sonic sucks by the way, so can we please keep that out of this thread please? Just asking.

Now, getting back to the topic at hand, if you can't see the screenshots at TSSZ, Sonic Retro has them.

http://www.sonicretro.org/2012/02/sonic-4-episode-2-screenshots-released-on-xbox-live-marketplace/

On top of that, we now have more screenshots.

http://www.sonicretro.org/2012/02/more-sonic-4-episode-2-shots-straight-from-the-source/

Thoughts about the level looks? Any thoughts on how co-op will work, seeing as it's both local AND online?

We will be seeing the game in action on the 23rd, in a live stream by Gamespot.

Quite correct on (5) Amuro; I am friggin' tired, college is pretty demanding.

On the statement in general, I think episode one spoke for itself, it's easily one of the worst Sonic games that have ever been released; Sonic Labyrinth might get that title a lot but at least it didn't shatter any promises, Sonic 4 episode 1 did; they said it was going to play like the originals and it just sucked BIG TIME.

I am not going to bother to explain why that game was bad seeing how I've already done so directly or indirectly on this site numerous times.

I'm glad that you have that opinion of the Sonic franchise Amuro, at least you can enjoy it, but I can't; Sega LITERALLY destroyed my childhood memories of this game, you might not have been born for the originals and you might not have lived through the downfall of Sonic the hedgehog so I can understand why you'd think nothing is wrong. It's because that's what you knew FIRST.

I know quite well of Nick's passion for gaming canon in general; he's a completionist he needs things to make sense to him and I am fine with that, not being rude though, it's still not my concern. He wants to make sense of a section in the Sonic Franchise that I refuse to accept as canon, he knows this and we both agree to disagree and while that might be one of our conflicting mindsets, almost every other aspect of Sonic is pretty much shared to the detail.

Remember, he used to believe that there was nothing wrong with the adventure design. When you look at it though there really isn't anything special about it, no charm, no style; just a mocked up "attitude" that they continue screaming at your face so that your brain somehow manages to believe that what there saying actually aligns with the horrible design that is modern Sonic.
